World Indoor Skydiving
Championships 2019
The Brief
The World Championships of Indoor Skydiving, held in the Weembi tunnel in Lille, featured the best indoor skydivers in the world competing for their country. From the intense routines to the behind-the-scenes interviews and backstories, the whole event is packed with potent moments of action and emotion and we were at the Weembi Wind Tunnel in Lille to capture it all.
Taking nine crew members and a whopping seventeen cameras for over a week of project time on location; the World Championships was one of the biggest events we’ve been involved in during the six years we’ve been filming and broadcasting high profile indoor skydiving competitions.
The Project
Gravity, Bodyflight and the French Nationals are just some of the events we’ve covered previously. Our experience in this sector not only allowed us to be totally autonomous – working independently of the event team and leaving them free to focus on the competition – but also meant we could deliver the most engaging content in order to connect with the viewers. From the ad breaks to graphics, interviews, wireless cameras, slow motion replays, video packages, intros, VTs and pieces featuring specific teams and their backstory we captured all the elements that make these competitions compelling viewing for the audience.
Setting up the control room
Weembi was special not just because it was the World Championships, but also because it marked the introduction of action replay to our repertoire. One operator in control of eleven slow motion cameras allowed us to capture some stunning moments in the dynamic and freestyle disciplines, really showing the immense skill of the competitors. We got a great response and incredibly positive feedback from the client on this, and have marked it as a huge success; we’re looking forward to using this again in future events.
The Result
The viewing statistics show that live streaming was by far the most popular method of watching the competition initially but by day three, during the finals, on-demand video had gained in popularity and the actual duration of the views increased by nearly 300%.

Each competitor is incredibly proud to be able to compete for their nation: team members have trained for years and fought hard in order to deserve to be here. This competition marks the pinnacle of their life’s work so far and we’re proud to have created coverage that connected with people across the world, taking this incredible event to a truly global platform.
We decided to work with EpicTech because of what we saw from their work at the Bedford competition. You deliver a very great live stream- the quality is at the rendezvous as we say in French. It was really enjoyable to work with EpicTech, you guys are very clever, you tell what you do and do what you tell. One of the challenges was that you are English, and we are French, but the communication was great.
